The Chipmunk
featuring K-2 vocabulary

Lyrics

Hey guys. Let me tell you a little story, ok?
And it might be a little hard to believe.
It all started when I went for a walk in the park, all by myself one Saturday.
And this is how it went. Check it out.

First I saw this ENORMOUS tree.
Incredible! The biggest tree I ever did see,
And what did I see, in this huge oak tree?
A chipmunk on a branch, winking at me.
The wind was blowing and his tale QUIVERED.
It shook back and forth while he ate his dinner.
The chipmunk uncurled his tale, UNFURLED it.
I wanted to get closer, but I was nervous,
So I stayed at a DISTANCE, not too close.
I didn't move toward him, I didn't APPROACH.
Just then I heard a little voice, it sounded fun,
"Hi!" I looked around but there was no one.

He’s the one up in the tree,
The other chipmunks want to be…
It’s Mr. T.
“It’s me!”

I had heard a little voice from the tree.
I said, "Who's there?" Chipmunk said, "It's me!"
I was shocked, a MAGICAL chipmunk?
An animal who does things normal ones don't?
It was a MARVEL, a wonderful thing.
He did a cartwheel, and began to sing.
This was funny, it was HUMOROUS.
I said, "You talk, little fellow?" He said, "Yes!”
I didn't know his name, so he INFORMED me,
He told me his name was Mr. T.
"I'm Mr. T, ABSOLUTELY, without a doubt,
I'm the coolest chipmunk in the house."
It was EXTRAORDINARY, not normal at all,
I was getting talked to by this little fur ball.
This was the craziest thing I'd ever heard.
I was SPEECHLESS, I couldn't even say a word.

He’s the one up in the tree,
The other chipmunks want to be…
It’s Mr. T.
“It’s me!”

"Hey Mr. T. you want to team up for a walk?"
He said, "Sure, but first I've got to clean up.
I need a few minutes in PRIVATE, all alone.
You see this nice tail? Well it needs a comb!"
He came out later looking stylish and DAPPER.
He parachuted down on a candy wrapper.
We were walking through the park and heard a loud SQUAWK:
Some kind of noise from behind a rock.
It was a RUMPUS, a lot of loud sound.
We went to INVESTIGATE, guess what we found.
One thousand tiny chipmunks up on a rock,
playing hop-scotch, listening to hip-hop.
A thousand tiny chipmunks up on a rock,
playing hop-scotch, listening to hip-hop.

He’s the one up in the tree,
The other chipmunks want to be…
It’s Mr. T.
“It’s me!”

And that is the way we’ve got to end this story.
