Alex and Blake of Flocabulary can visit your school.

The Student Workshop

Grade Level: 1-12, customized for any learning level
Length: 90 Minutes
Format: Interactive Writing / Performance Workshop
Themes: Creative Writing, Poetry Analysis, Vocabulary Instruction, Media Literacy, Performance, Entrepreneurship
Technology Required: LCD Projector/Screen, Speakers
Cost: $1500*
Students learn about the origin of the Flocabulary concept and are taught about the power of music and rhyme as memory techniques. After several introductory games, the students break down the craft of writing by working with voice, figurative language, and vocabulary. After watching Flocabulary perform and analyze several songs, students write their own raps incorporating vocabulary words and themes from history and literature. The culminating activity is a student performance where willing participants get the chance to show off their masterpieces. For older students, Flocabulary artists can add an introductory discussion on entrepreneurship.

"I really enjoyed your performance! My friends and I talked about you guys for the whole school day!"
- a Hicksville, NJ student

"During the Flocab performance, our kids even got to write a few lines of their own. It was an exciting event - fun, entertaining, and wildly informative. We look forward to having Flocab back again next year."
- Ayele Shakur, Executive Director, Boston Learning Center

The Professional Development Workshop:

Level: Teachers of grades 1-12
Length: 2 hours
Format: Interactive, Writing Workshop
Themes: Student Engagement, Lesson Plan Creation for Creative Writing, Poetry Analysis, Vocabulary Instruction, Media Literacy
Technology Required: LCD Projector/Screen, Speakers
Cost: $1750
Description: More of a discussion than a presentation, an emphasis is placed on understanding the pedagogy behind the Flocabulary program. Teachers learn how to lead their classes in the Flocabulary-style writing workshops, as well as create lesson plans that foster writing, poetry analysis, and abstract thought - all through hip-hop music and lyrics! Much like the student program, teachers write and perform to better understand the academic value of music and rhyme, and to learn to make connections with students in a socially relevant voice. A focus is placed on multiple literacies and high-interest content.
"Teachers really enjoyed their presentation. They felt it was really something that could help them connect with their students… The response was phenomenal.”
- Michael Guevara, president of the Texas Council of Teachers for English

"It was the best assembly ever!"
- a Newport News, VA student

Note: Flocabulary's day rate (combining any number of student and teacher workshops) is $2000. Schools that book any Flocabulary shows receive 10% off CD/Workbook orders for any of our products.
